- What is Naegele's rule?
- Naegele's rule estimates the due date by adding 280 days (40 weeks) to the first day of the last menstrual period (LMP). It assumes a regular 28-day cycle and ovulation on day 14.
- How accurate is the estimated due date?
- The EDD is an estimate. Only about 5% of babies are born on the exact due date. Most full-term births occur within two weeks before or after the EDD. An ultrasound in the first trimester can provide a more precise date.
